Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the highly anticipated expansion of the notoriously challenging FromSoftware series, is soon to make its entrance. This noteworthy addition to the renowned 2022 open-world action RPG is packed with exciting content like brand-new summoning options, weapons, dungeons, bosses, and more, not to mention the introduction of a gargantuan map for its patrons to venture into.
The map isn't just a substantial component of the already expansive game world. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki reveals that it also infuses a unique gaming experience, courtesy of FromSoftware's innovative design principles.
During a recent discussion with PC Gamer, Miyazaki unveiled that they have successfully fused the traditional dungeon design with Elden Ring's open-world concept in Shadow of the Erdtree's map. The result is striking open field terrains marked by diversity and enhanced verticality.
Miyazaki stated, "Our goal this time was to create something intermediate between an open field and a customary dungeon, a fusion of those that would intensify the sense of verticality. We wanted to ensure that the large open field conveys not just vastness and specificity but also variety. We tried to enrich the diversity in the arrangement and structuring of both the open field and the conventional dungeons."
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be accessible to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC gamers from June 21 onwards.
